Earlier this month, and because I spend entirely too much money on cosmetics, I received an email from Sephora VIB Rouge to attend an event for the launch of Elizabeth and James Nirvana White / Nirvana Black perfumes. At the event I would have the chance to meet, and even have a professional photo taken with, the awe inspiring former child stars, prior media fixtures, and current fashion icons Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen. It just so happens that I am obsessed with their personal styles and fashion lines. Considering this and given that I had (and blown) the chance to attend a similar event where I would have had the chance to meet Marc Jacobs, I RSVPed to the Olsen event immediately.
During the week that led up to the event, I almost chickened out several dozen times. In the end I went through with it, telling myself it would be the chance to meet some of the coolest girls in the world… Which of course they were! From the few moments I interacted with them, barely enough to register a memory, they appeared mature, completely gracious and very human. I kept my cool and told them that I was a big fan of their aesthetic. A line that may sound pretentious and a bit rehearsed, but is 100% true to how I feel about these amazing chicks!
The event itself was pretty sweet. Only about 100-200 people were in attendance, so it was nice to be able to shop privately over an extended period of time. There were decent refreshments. I was a little disappointed that the Olsens and their Nirvana White / Nirvana Black perfumes didn’t receive a small introduction; giving the event an museum exhibition like quality. The night was soundtracked by DJ Harley Viera-Newton! Not bad, although I’d be just as well to listen to tracks from Haim’s Days Are Gone on vinyl at home.
Of course, the best part was getting this awesome photograph! I am so looking forward to attending more Sephora VIB Rouge events in the future!
